Who am I?

I'm a rare books librarian from Los Angeles, California who moved to Fife, Scotland in 2012, and then to the Vale of Glamorgan, Wales in 2015. I collect hobbies, most of them of the crafty variety.

I'm taking small steps toward living in an environmentally sustainable way, heavily influenced by historical research and re-enactment. I'm less focused on creating exact reproductions of historical objects and more focused on incorporating old-fashioned objects and activities into my daily, modern life because I find them useful, beautiful, and satisfying. I dream of one day buying enough land to build a smallholding where I can indulge my hippy/geek tendencies.

In today's culture of instant gratification, where every job is quick-and-dirty and we sacrifice quality for lower prices, I'm interested in doing things slowly, by hand. I may not crank out as many projects as some other craftspeople, but I try to make every project into something whose quality I can be proud of, and that I can treasure both for its own sake and for the memories of working on it.
